PRIDE Rocks!

Hey RANTers!

How are you guys doing so far this month?

I know, I know. It has been TWO WHOLE WEEKES since I’ve last RANTed here on my blog. It’s just that I’ve been quite busy (Talk about being such a travel-bug.) for the past two weeks and this is the only time I’ve got some leeway. Even Temi and Garfield has been complaining (Don’t ask me how they complain. Trust me, you don't wanna know.) to me as to where I’ve been going to.

Anyway, let get started on RANTing again, shall we?

Okay, for your sake dearies, what I’m going to RANT about today is not about any detergent soaps…

…nor about the home of Simba and his pride (Not about that either.)…

…but rather about the P-R-I-D-E of the LGBT Community.

You may all be wondering as to when did this “LGBT Pride” and everything in between started.

Let’s have a little bit of background here, shall we?...

In the early 1960s in the United States of America, particularly in New York City, a campaign to get rid of gay bars was put into order by the then Mayor Robert F. Wagner Jr.. His concern is very simple: the image of the city (It’s a good thing that he’s not concerned about his OWN image.) in preparation for the 1964 World’s Fair.

In line with the order of the mayor, the authorities of the city all tried shutting down the gay bar, and their first move is to ban all liquors in each bar.

Then can you dearies guess what their next move is? If you thought of jailing homosexual men (You read that right, dearie.), then you thought correctly. Just like what is happening in Uganda right now.

This thing had gone on for almost a decade until the Stonewall Riots of1969.

It was during those riots that the LGBT community united as one and started fighting for their rights to be recognized as human beings capable of being hurt and being loved.

It was in June 29, 1970 that the very first Pride March, which was then known as “Christopher Street Liberation Day”, was held in commemoration of the Stonewall Riots which was organized by Brenda Howard; a bisexual woman and the Mother of Pride.

And once again, we are celebrating our Pride this month.

But what are the things that the LGBT community are proud of?

I can only think of these THREE…

3. Scorching

Let’s have a bit of guided imagery here…

Close your eyes and imagine yourselves taking a wonderful vacation at your favorite beach (Not the other “B” word.).

Everything is wonderful; you’re lying down under the scorching-hot sun and getting your tan, a glass of your favorite drink at the table beside you, the sound of gentle waves of the sea, and you suddenly saw a hot guy/girl walking in front of you and she A-C-T-U-A-L-L-Y waved at the your direction. You look around you and you see no one else but you. Then you waved back at him/her.

As he/she continued walking, you suddenly saw where he/she is going to; his/her same-sex partner.

PAK!

Admit it, dearies! Admit it!

Most of the LGBT members are EXTREMELY H-O-T (I’m an exception to that rule). They are so gorgeously hot that sometimes you cannot determine if he/she is straight or not unless they tell you that he/she is gay.

Don’t believe me? Then take a good look at them…

Now tell me that you thought they were straight.

2. The Mix

What is MASCULINITY and FEMININITY?

Let’s ask Mr. Webster…

MASCULINITY is defined as someone having qualities appropriate to or usually associated with MEN whilst FEMININITY is defined as someone having characteristics or qualities appropriate to or usually associated with or unique with WOMEN.

Now dearies, think of any heterosexual man or woman who exudes both MASCULINE and FEMININE energies; the type wherein you just take one look at them then you see a P-E-R-F-E-C-T mixture of the two.

Can’t think of any heterosexual man/woman?

That’s because it is what defines most of the LGBT members. We exude both masculinity and femininity so much that it is like the lubricant (I know what you’re thinking there!) of our GAYDARS.

Some of us might look like we can kill with just a snap of a finger but inside we are actually soft and sensitive. And some of us might look like we’re vulnerable and innocent but in actuality we can bring a tree down just by touching it with one finger.

Oh! You just thought of a heterosexual man/woman who does exude both masculinity and femininity? You might want to consider his/her sexuality.

1. ROCK Hard

Whoops! It’s not THAT kind of hard thing, dearie. As much as I like it as straight women and fellow gay men do, that’s not what I meant by this one.

What I mean is that we pride ourselves as individuals with DIAMOND-HARD HEARTS (Ain’t it precious?).

How come, you may ask.

Just like the hardest mineral that has been discovered by man, we ourselves had been through a whole lot of pressure through time. The bullying of our own relatives and classmates, the suicide attempts that almost killed us, the constant bashing and the-Bible-is-correct-and-you’re-a-sinner  that the conservative “Christians” has shoved into our own faces, and all of the hardships we've faced just by accepting our sexuality are the ones that molded us into who we are now.

Our hearts exude so much radiance and beauty that some mistake us to be vulnerable and sensitive. But we simply are not.

We are so hard (Oops!) that no matter how others bash and discriminate us again and again, they simply just can’t put a single scratch on us.

These are just simply the things that I think we take Pride on. Some may agree with me and some may not. But let me ask you just one more thing…

What do you take PRIDE on?
